What is a hosted phone system?

A hosted phone system allows you to make calls over the internet using voice over IP (VoIP). Unlike old phone systems located on company premises, hosted phone systems are in internet-connected data centres, i.e. “The Cloud”. Rather than buying a physical phone system, you subscribe to software-as-a-service. You still get desk phones if you want them, but you also get the option to take calls on other devices too.
